The Algarve is one of the top locations in Portugal to visit, especially if you’re travelling with children. Very well serviced with many great resorts, you can be assured that you’ll be able to get everything you need if you’re travelling to this beautiful region of the country. Meanwhile, Portugal is one of the cheapest spots in Europe, making any family excursion as affordable as possible. With a huge variety of attractions in addition to a great climate, you’ll be able to enjoy a fantastic family trip filled with fun and excitement.
Whilst your ideal holiday may be lying on a beach or by the pool, children can often get very bored by this and want a little more excitement for their vacation. The Algarve is fantastic for this however, and in addition to many resorts actively catering to children so that you can get some downtime, there are a great range of attractions for all the family to enjoy together.
If you’re on holidays in the Algarve and still want to top up your tan whilst you entertain the kids then there is no better place to go than one of the area’s water parks. Two of the best are Slide & Splash and Aqualand, both of which are less than half an hour’s drive from Faro. Aqualand boasts the accolade of being Europe’s largest water park and has a huge range of water chutes, white-water rapids and swimming pools to enjoy. Meanwhile Slide & Splash, whilst being smaller, has more variety and you’ll be able to enjoy the Corkscrew, Black Hole and Crazy River chutes in addition to plenty of simple slides and wave pools for younger children.
For something a little different, and some exhilaration for the whole family, Praia da Luz offers the chance for a Buggy Tour through the Algarve’s beautiful countryside. You’ll have the chance to explore cork trees, vineyard and forests and, as long as children are seven or over, you can get a great half day out enjoying a thrilling ride that will not be forgotten.
Zoos are often a popular choice for both parents and children, and the Algarve has both the Zoo Marine and Lagos Zoo to tempt you if you want to see cute wildlife. In addition to fun fair rides and sandpits, Zoo Marine is home to tropical birds, dolphins, alligators, and sea lions, and offers a large range of talks and shows. Lagos Zoo meanwhile is a more traditional zoo, but with the chance for children to get up close and personal with many of the zoo’s inhabitants, it can be a great day out with many lasting memories.
With so many attractions in the Algarve, in addition to the stunning coastline, incredible beaches and cliff walks, there is a huge amount to occupy both yourself and your family. Whether you’re just seeking sun and relaxation or want to get the entire group actively exploring, holidays in Algarve are some of the best family vacations that you can have.
