Fiesa - Pera

This is one of those attractions that's very unique. Every year on the Algarve (Fiesa 2008 is the 6th year running) they have a sand building exhibition like you have never seen before. Sculpture experts from all over the world come to the Algarve to create some amazing, and very large, sand exibits. In 2007 they used 30,000 tonnes of sand and for Fiesa 2008 that's risen to 35,000. The sculptures were always pretty traidtional (pyramids, the last supper etc.) but this year sees Hollywood arrive to the sand exhibition with Shrek, Spiderman, The Simpsons and others alongside the more traditional exhibits. This is well worth the trip and is within 15 minutes of all the Western Algarve attractions and one option is to visit it in the evening once the theme parks (like Aqualand, Slide and Splash and Zoomarine) have closed as with the lighting is is also very special at night.

The exhibition is located next to Pera which is just off the EN125 in between Guia and Lagoa. Its very well signposted.

No doubt the exhibition will return in 2009 even bigger.
