Flights into Faro
In the last few years there has been a big expansion of flight routes into Faro. A list of all the direct flight departure points is below, there is a ‘by airline’ list and 'a flight-finder'.
Other Options
There are a couple of other destinations to consider. You can fly into Lisbon then take the train down to the Algarve which is a nice trip and also Ryanair do some bargain flights into Seville which is just over 2 hours drive from the Algarve. The latter option is an interesting one to combine with a visit to one of Seville’s attractions like Isla Magica. With the wide availability of single tickets, its sometimes worth using one of these options combined with a direct flight for the other leg.

Book ahead - most low cost airlines open flights 5-6 months ahead of time but some of the larger airlines open earlier with low prices at the beginning. For example, British Airways open out their summer flights 11-12 months ahead and Monarch slightly later. On both you can get some great deals by booking ahead.

If you are considering July or August bear in mind that most of the best villas and apartments are booked out by the end of January. You will miss out on some absolute gems if you leave your search until the spring. Unlike many areas of Spain, there is a shortage of quality accommodation on the Algarve so the earlier you plan the better.

Local Tip
The flight to Faro from the UK comes in at around 2½ hours which is perfect timing to watch a film. Particularly useful if you have children. All you need is either a portable DVD player (now about £50) or most laptops, a headphone splitter (about £3 from HMV/Dixons) and a couple of sets of headphones. The flight will literally fly by and makes for a great start and end to the holiday.
